A business chatbot is useful when it does one job well: answer common support questions, qualify a lead, book a meeting, or recover a cart. It is not useful when it is a generic chat box with no source of truth. Pick the tool by channel and job: Tidio Lyro, HubSpot Breeze, Intercom, or Kommunicate for site support, Drift, Conversica, or Tars for sales conversations, ManyChat for Messenger and Instagram marketing, and Chatbase or Dialogflow when you need a bot trained on your own content or a custom build.
No-code builders are enough for FAQs and lead forms. Developer frameworks are for custom flows, voice, or multiple apps. A writing assistant is not a customer-facing chatbot.
Quick picks by job
| Job | First pick | Budget pick | Skip if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Answer website FAQs and hand off to a human | Tidio Lyro or Intercom | Tidio or Kommunicate | You have no FAQ, help docs, or someone to review answers |
| Use the CRM you already pay for | HubSpot Breeze | HubSpot’s included chatbot tools | You do not use HubSpot |
| Capture and qualify sales leads on the site | Drift or Tars | Landbot | You have no one to take the handoff |
| Follow up leads inside a CRM | Conversica | HubSpot Breeze | Your pipeline is too small to justify sales-engagement software |
| Market on Messenger, Instagram, or SMS | ManyChat | ManyChat | You only need a website widget |
| Train a bot on your own docs or site | Chatbase | Chatbase | Your source material is outdated or wrong |
| Build a custom or voice assistant | Dialogflow | Wit.ai | You need a finished bot this afternoon and have no developer |
| Ecommerce quizzes, support, and campaigns | Octane AI or Kommunicate | Tidio | You do not have a store or product catalog |
What a business chatbot should do
Useful bots fall into four types:
- Support: answer common questions, pull help-center articles, and route hard issues to a person.
- Sales: greet visitors, ask qualifying questions, book meetings, and pass the lead to CRM.
- Marketing: send offers, surveys, and sequences on chat apps.
- Transactional: book, order, or pay inside the chat when the system is connected to real inventory or a calendar.
If the bot cannot cite your approved answers or hand off to a human, do not put it on the homepage.
Best tools for website support
Tidio Lyro is a practical SMB support bot. It answers from your FAQs and is built for small and midsize teams that want to deflect repeat questions. Best as a first website widget. Weak as a full enterprise service suite.
HubSpot Breeze is the right default if your contacts already live in HubSpot. It can answer from your knowledge base, site, and blogs, then keep the conversation in the CRM. Do not buy a second chatbot platform until you have used this.
Intercom is stronger when support, messaging, and product tours need to live together. Best for SaaS teams that want automation plus a shared inbox. More than a small brochure site needs.
Kommunicate combines live chat and AI bots with ecommerce-friendly integrations. Best when support and sales share one inbox. Confirm channel coverage before you switch.
DevRev routes users to articles and blends bot answers with human support. Best when the product team wants support conversations tied to tickets and docs. Not the simplest SMB widget.
Aivo is an enterprise customer-service and sales suite for longer conversational journeys. Best for larger stacks. Too much for a one-person shop.
Best tools for sales and lead capture
Drift is built for B2B site chat: greet the visitor, qualify the lead, and start a real-time conversation. Best when sales is watching the inbox. Weak if nobody will answer the handoff.
Tars is a no-code, mobile-friendly lead-capture bot with a drag-and-drop builder. Best for landing pages and form replacement. Not a full help desk.
Landbot builds website and WhatsApp flows without code. Best for quizzes, qualifiers, and WhatsApp follow-up. Weak if you need a deep knowledge-base agent.
Conversica is a sales-engagement assistant that follows up leads and can connect to Salesforce. Best for teams with enough inbound leads to need persistent outreach. Not a website FAQ bot.
Botsify and SnatchBot are general no-code builders for web, Messenger, Slack, and other channels. Use them when you want a simple custom flow and do not already live in HubSpot or Intercom.
Best tools for marketing chat
ManyChat is the common choice for Messenger, Instagram, and SMS sequences. Best for broadcasts, appointments, and comment-to-DM funnels. It is not a replacement for a help desk.
Octane AI focuses on Shopify-style ecommerce: quizzes, campaigns, and store support. Best when product recommendations and post-purchase messages matter. Skip it if you have no catalog.
Best tools for custom bots and your own data
Chatbase trains a bot on your documents, site, or knowledge base and can sit on WordPress or connect through Zapier. Best when you want “ask our docs” without building a model. Garbage in, garbage out: outdated PDFs create confident wrong answers.
Dialogflow is Google’s developer platform for text and voice agents across apps. Best when you have someone who can design intents and connect systems. Not a same-day SMB install.
Wit.ai is a natural-language understanding framework, useful when a developer is building the bot into an app. It is not a finished business chatbot.
Pandorabots uses AIML and can cover many messaging and voice channels, including animated avatars. Best for custom characters and scripted personalities. Older workflow than “upload a PDF and chat.”
Tools that are not customer chatbots
Jasper Chat is a marketing writing assistant with templates and brand voice. Use it to draft content. Do not treat it as your public support agent.
Fireflies records and transcribes meetings. That can improve support quality after the call. It is not a website or Messenger chatbot.
How to choose in 10 minutes
- Write the job: FAQ deflection, lead capture, CRM follow-up, or Instagram/SMS marketing.
- If you already pay for HubSpot or Intercom, use that bot first.
- If the questions are the same 20 FAQs, Tidio or Chatbase is enough.
- If the goal is booked meetings, use Drift, Tars, or Landbot and name the human who takes the lead.
- If the goal is social-channel campaigns, use ManyChat.
- Do not launch without a fallback to email, ticket, or live chat.
What these tools get wrong
- A bot trained on a thin website will invent answers.
- Lead bots annoy visitors when they block the page and cannot book anything.
- Marketing chat apps can spam; follow platform rules.
- Developer frameworks need maintenance after launch.
- Meeting transcription is not customer messaging.
Suggested stack
- Already on HubSpot: Breeze
- Small site support: Tidio Lyro
- B2B demo booking: Drift or Landbot
- Instagram / Messenger marketing: ManyChat
- Ask-our-docs widget: Chatbase
- Custom or voice project: Dialogflow
Most teams do not need Intercom, Drift, ManyChat, and Dialogflow at the same time.

FAQ
What is the best AI chatbot for business?
There isn’t one. Tidio or HubSpot Breeze are common starting points for support. Drift or Tars are common for site leads. ManyChat is common for social messaging. Chatbase is common for a bot trained on your docs.
Can a chatbot replace a support team?
No. It can answer repeat questions and collect details. Hard cases still need a person and a ticket.
Do I need a developer to launch a bot?
Not for FAQ and lead-capture widgets. You do need technical help for custom voice, deep system integrations, or Dialogflow-style builds.
Is Jasper a business chatbot?
No. Jasper helps marketers write. It is not a customer-facing support or sales agent.
What should I prepare before buying a chatbot?
A short list of approved answers, a human handoff path, and the channel you actually use: website, WhatsApp, Instagram, or CRM.
